How do I remove the background from a photo?
Open Remove background from the tools menu and choose the image. Pick the mode: Person detects people automatically; Tap the object keeps what you tap (tap again to add parts, or use Take away); Plain background removes single-colour backgrounds, with adjustable tolerance. Then touch up with Erase and Restore, soften the edges and download as a transparent PNG, or with a white or coloured background (PNG or JPG). Undo goes back up to 20 steps.
Is the photo uploaded to a server when I remove the background?
No. Detection runs in your browser: the first time, the site downloads the detection engine (a few MB) and then the image is processed on this device. Very large images are reduced to 3000 px on the longest side so the phone does not run out of memory.
The cut-out has gaps. What can I do?
Results depend on the photo. Hair, transparency, shadows and objects the same colour as the background are the hardest cases. Try another mode: for product photos on white use Plain background and adjust the tolerance; for objects on busy backgrounds use Tap the object. Then use Erase and Restore with a smaller brush at the edges and raise Soften edges if the outline looks jagged.
